If you’ve searched “is resume coach free,” you’ve probably hit the same wall as everyone else. Every tool says “free,” then asks for a credit card after you upload your resume.
This guide explains what “free” usually means for AI resume coaches - and why Briefix is different: Job Resume Coach is free, and every other tool in the app is free too. Open the Job Resume Coach feature page when you are ready to run a scan, then follow our ATS-friendly resume guide for formatting.
What Is a Resume Coach?
A resume coach reviews your resume and tells you how to make it stronger. Traditional coaches are people, and they charge $100 to $500 or more per session. An AI resume coach does the core job instantly: it checks your wording, formatting, and keywords against the job you want.
A good AI resume coach should:
- Score your resume for ATS compatibility (applicant tracking systems)
- Suggest stronger action verbs and measurable achievements
- Flag missing keywords from the job description
- Catch formatting problems that cause parsing errors
Is Resume Coach Free? The Honest Answer
For most apps, it depends - and the fine print hurts. Most resume coach apps use one of three models:
| Model | What’s free | What’s locked |
|---|---|---|
| Freemium | Basic score, a few tips | Full report, rewrites, downloads |
| Free trial | Everything, for 3 to 7 days | Everything after the trial |
| Truly free (Briefix) | Full coaching: score, gaps, rewrites, PDF export | Nothing - premium only removes ads |
Before you upload anything to a random “free” tool, check three things:
- Can you see your full feedback without paying? A score alone isn’t coaching.
- Can you download or copy your improved resume? Some tools hold your own text hostage.
- Do they ask for a card up front? If so, it’s a trial, not a free tool.
With Briefix, the answers are yes, yes, and no. You get the full Job Resume Coach workflow for free - and the same free model applies across the whole app.
What Briefix’s Free Resume Coach Includes
Briefix Job Resume Coach is not a teaser score. Free means the full loop:
- ATS-friendly check: confirms your layout and headings can be read by hiring software
- Keyword matching: compares your resume to a job description and shows what’s missing
- Section feedback and quick wins: polish summary, experience, skills, and more
- ATS resume built from your real experience only - nothing invented
- Cover letter for the same posting, side-by-side compare, and PDF export
- On-device history - results stay on your phone, not uploaded to Briefix servers
How to Use Briefix Resume Coach Step by Step
- Pick the job first. Copy the job description for the role you want.
- Upload or paste your resume (PDF, DOCX, TXT, or text). Use a clean format, no tables or text boxes.
- Create your ATS resume and review the score, keyword gaps, and section feedback.
- Rewrite your weakest bullets. Start each with an action verb and add a number.
- Export the resume and cover letter as PDF, then tailor again for the next application - still free.
Free AI Resume Coach vs. Paid Resume Coach
| Briefix (free AI) | Paid human coach | |
|---|---|---|
| Cost | $0 - all features free | $100 to $500+ |
| Speed | Seconds | Days |
| ATS keyword check | Yes | Sometimes |
| Industry-specific advice | General | Personalized |
| Best for | First drafts, tailoring each job | Career changes, executive roles |
For most job seekers, a free AI coach covers 80% of what matters. Consider a paid human coach only for a major career pivot or senior-level search - not because Briefix locked the report behind a paywall.
Common Resume Mistakes a Free Coach Will Catch
- Using a fancy template that ATS software can’t read
- Listing duties instead of achievements
- Missing keywords from the job posting
- A generic summary that could describe anyone
- Inconsistent dates, fonts, or tense
- Resumes longer than 2 pages for under 10 years of experience
Quick Tips to Improve Your Resume Today
- Lead every bullet with a verb: led, built, reduced, launched
- Add at least one number to every role
- Mirror the exact job title and key skills from the posting
- Save as PDF unless the application asks for .docx
- Keep your contact info and headings simple and standard
